A product-level certificate often aggregates data from multiple batches and may mask these differences, leading to assumptions that all material behaves identically.

Because peptide synthesis involves multiple steps, small changes in reagents, temperature, or reaction time can affect purity, identity, or the presence of minor impurities. Testing each lot lets you detect these shifts early, preventing downstream assay variability and saving time on troubleshooting.

Lot-specific certificates of analysis typically include detailed HPLC traces, mass spectrometry data, and impurity profiles. By comparing these reports across lots, you can track trends such as gradual loss of purity or the emergence of new side products, and adjust your experimental design accordingly.

In practice, always record the lot number on your lab notebook, request the full COA for every shipment, and verify that key parameters meet your assay requirements before use. If a lot fails to meet criteria, isolate the material and consider re-purification or substitution.
