beta-defensin-2

These are published properties of the molecule, given for identification. Values we cannot confirm are omitted rather than estimated. What these terms mean.

What this compound is

Forty-one residues with three disulfides in a different arrangement to the alpha-defensin above. The two families are named for exactly that difference in how their bonds pair up, and both are here to show it.

Sequence

Beta-defensin 2 amino-acid sequence in one-letter code, numbered by residue position
1GIGDPVTCLK SGAICHPVFC PRRYKQIGTC GLPGTKCCKK P
Three-letter code
Gly-Ile-Gly-Asp-Pro-Val-Thr-Cys-Leu-Lys-Ser-Gly-Ala-Ile-Cys-His-Pro-Val-Phe-Cys-Pro-Arg-Arg-Tyr-Lys-Gln-Ile-Gly-Thr-Cys-Gly-Leu-Pro-Gly-Thr-Lys-Cys-Cys-Lys-Lys-Pro

The one-letter code gives the amino-acid backbone. Terminal modifications, where a compound carries them, are accounted for in the molecular weight above but are not visible in the letters.

Residue composition

Counted directly from the sequence above. Beta-defensin 2 is built from 16 of the twenty standard amino acids across 41 positions.

Side-chain classes follow the standard grouping of the twenty proteinogenic amino acids. Composition is arithmetic over the published sequence and says nothing about how the molecule behaves.
